greed's little annoyances
naturally, "fixing" the computer meant making the computer a Microsoft computer again, as opposed to mine... why should it be mine, after all, I simply bought and paid for it... Microsoft still owns it because they "fix" their software to maintain possession of anything it touches...
so every time I open the browser I find Microsoft trying to take me to it's home page because it "fixed" my registry... the home page in my IE options remains my web site, but the registry was rewritten when it was "fixed"...
so I have to tell Microsoft that I do not want them to be my home page every time I reboot and open the browser and that is quite often since the software crashes, on average, once or twice an hour... I did correct the problem myself a while back by editing the registry by hand, but I don't have time and don't want to rush that operation...
I know, use Firefox... it crashes just as much as IE... so maybe the low RAM and weak CPU has something to do with it, but that doesn't change the fact that Microsoft makes faulty products and web browsers in general can't really handle some of what is on the web...
the road is being build faster than the cars...
and then there's Google, who took over blogger and consolidated this RealTime blog with other blogs I started on their new and improved service... the trouble there is ,I now and stuck with a longer handle that I can not change (an entire email address) and even when I click the box telling it to remember me (to put a cookie on my machine so I don't have to log in every time), it does not work...
probably because it's not meant to work with Win98, or some other reason that makes for built in obsolescence so we can continue buying product and throwing out old product and polluting the environment and commiting technological industrial consumer species suicide...
meanwhile, back here in RealTime, the bed it clear... I mean I finally hung up all the clothes... it's been ten minutes and the new rack hasn't collapsed yet... it's a little lopsided (they obviously rushed and did not use a level) and tils forward (so stuff on the shelves will have to be stacked leaning back toward the wall), but what should we expect for $1160 a month rent...
hey, we get free basic cable...
and the sink was actually clean and empty foralmost an entire day... the counters and tables and couches are still cluttered with various papers and sundries and pills and empty soda bottles and stuff and whatever and the lights almost never get turned off unless I turn them off (they don't have to care as I pay electric, but like justifying standing with the fridge door open or opening the fridge and freezer a dozen times a night or denying it even happens, some things about people {like denial} just makes no sense to me... but an addict must practice hard core denial most of the time I suppose)...
Raspy was really sick over the weekend again... head cold and flu... I hope he feels better soon... and maybe consider that his health and living and eating habits leave him vulnerable to getting sick more often than I do... he seems a bit better today... I hope he gets all better soon...
grump grump grump, huh?...
meanwhile, Jack, who is my officemate, if you recall, called in sick today so the cold she was blowing (she tried not to, covered her face and sat with her back to me and stayed as far away as possible) all over the office got bad enough for her to take off... it had to be bad because she's way behind in her work because the switch over to her new job did not go quite as smoothely as mine (partly because she was training me)... hopefully she'll feel better soon too...
yay for this body I am in because it's felt the bugs all around me trying to get a foothold for the past two weeks but so far they haven't gotten past the sniffles stages for a few days... focus on the positive energy, take the vitamins, eat the relatively balanced diet, get reasonably decent sleep, and exercise... sounds obvious or even like a commercial, but it works pretty consistently even while being exposed directly to all nature of potential infectious deseases at home and at work (and leave us not forget I do work in a hospital)...
and for those of you who did not see the rerun, George lost her virginity tonight... ok, so this is a reference to Dead Like Me and not life offline, but it does lead into my mentioning that tonight was about baseball p[layoffs and the usually Tuesday night fare, Dead Like Me and Eureka... the latter showed it's season finale, already, so it'll be missed and I hope it comes back... curious George and company have a few more years of reruns to run through before they go away, which is good because two of the characters are adorable to me and the whole show is fun to watch...
ironically, I lost interest (mostly because I stopped watching TV Sunday nights because weekends have gotten busier) in The Dead Zone in spite of the fact that Nicole Deboer makes my eyes smile, so visual fantasies don't last too long in my world (I've never been good at scheduling the superficial)... but when the timing is right, I still adore them...
anyway, hopefully ghosts in the closet will not wake me up tonight (we've decided that my closet is haunted, just in time for Halloween) and even though I am not nearly the fan I once was when I lived in NYC, it'll be nice if the Yankees win...
I feel so much better now, hope you do too J

Ghost in the closet?
so that what knocked the shelf.
I can't believe you are an IT man working 27 hours a day nine day as week earning xillion mega bucks and you still on win 98
How much did the alimony screw you for - or is that a l"et us not go there" kindda sore point.
Anyway glad you are getting time off, glad you are getting downtime, and even considering loitering on the web on free time at work.
Life just gets better and better
I wouldn't let Microsofts obsession with world domination bother you
well, I answered once and blogger or microsoft decided it was time to crash before I could press publish, so try try again...
yup, ghosts in the closet... they should make the month fun even if they wreck the place a bit before thay're done...
I'm paid data entry wages and in Florida, that's $14 an hour... poverty sucks... actually though, I am working fewer hours than ever and hope to be down under 40 hours a week very soon... unfortunately, mostly because it's a hospital and there are very strict federal laws about privacy, surfing the web is extremely limited and I doubt any of the community or blogging sites are allowed through the firewall... I already know myspace isn't... eventually I'll try others...
financially, I am at the low end of the slopes (but hey, it was fun being on the upper slopes for a while :)
at the turn of the millenium my net worth and total worth combined was below zero... the things we do for love (at least there was love on my side of the bed)...
since moving in with Raspy and Precious I haven't been able to save a dime... just living half their lifestyle half the time costs more than enough to keep me just barely breaking even... not wise for my retirement years, but mostly fun for now...
having $140 a month going to storage and $170 a month going to car payments doesn't help... but mostly it's eating out a lot and spending money on Precious... and just today the air conditioner on my car died (should I mention that the engine light has been on for, umm, a year or more?)... sounds like the compressor... ouchies for the wallet, and there's the latest reason there isn't an extra few hundred for another computer...
I saw an emachine at Walmart for under $400 while picking up salad and getting some clothes tonight... somehow I spend almost $300 on food and clothes and a toaster and can opener and some Halloween stuff for work and... that's how it goes...
you had to ask, huh? :P
I am enjoying life and that's the best bottom line I can imagine...
and I changed my registry so the start page is back to my site... now if the computer still boots up next time I restart it, I'll know I didn't cut off any vital organs with my hacksaw surgery :)
thanks for caring and being here... if I ever win the lottery or find big bucks on the street, you'll get yours :)
