another catch-up entry
so tonight (technically last night), i rushed out of the training fair at work (where i and others sat at tables in the gymnasium while staff come and sit and get a crash course in our respective departments and systems and policies and procedures and stuff) to drive to St. Pete and would have gotten there with time to spare, except that just before leaving highway 417 to get on highway 4, my right rear tire goes flat… first flat i've had in many years and perfectly timed to add to the time-challenged week… as if the universe sought to help me laugh at the irony of adding more to an already overflowing plate...
the car, like many these days, comes with a donut spare… not the ideal way to travel at 80+ mph for a few hours… luckily, i had a full sized tire in the trunk… unfortunately, the tire was not on a rim… so i called the emergency road service number and explained that to the person on the other end of the phone… five times, at least…
yes, i repeated that i specifically needed a service person who could un-mount and mount a new tire to a rim… five times, at least… i asked for confirmation of hat i was asking for… i explained that i was in a hurry because i had to be in st. pete in a couple of hours… he said he understood… i explained that if no service person was available for the un-mounting and mounting i needed, then i could put the donut on the car and be on my way looking for an open tire place or station that could mount a tire, rather than wait for service… i repeated that a lot, five times, at least… i repeat it here to emphasize how clear i was about what service i specifically needed… we then confirmed my location three times… he said someone will be there to mount the tire in 45 minutes…
while i waited i cleaned the windows and the floor mats, collecting trash Precious and I (mostly) and others left on the floor of my car over the years… i don't make time to clean up the paper trash much (i do regularly pick up the bottles and food trash she leaves behind)… a while later, as darkness was falling hard, my phone rings… did i mention that my phone had just a 22% charge left and i left the car charged home?... the service guy said he was at the location he was told to be at… after fifteen minutes of bantering on the slowly running out of battery phone, fifteen minutes in which he insisted he was at the Celebration toll exchange on the southbound side of the 417, he finally showed up at the Celebration toll exchange on the southbound side of the 417 where i was waiting…
so we get together and he laughs as i explain what i need, informing me that no one mounts tires on the road… after explaining my repeated clarifications with the road service guy on the phone and he explaining how much trouble he's gotten into in the past for mounting tires on the road, he proceeds to month the tire… it is a challenging and time consuming process without the hydraulic equipment, in the dark, and i'm watching the time slip by for the concert…
finally, just after 7pm (the doors open for the concert at 7pm), he is done and i am on the road… i gave him a $40 tip for breaking the rules… and speeding along, i got to the concert between 8 and 8:30pm, just in time to see the last song of the first band, which was surprising and a big yay… and the concert was very good, not great (quiet young inexperienced crowd, decent sound, only fair acoustics, medium energy performances, but still very good)… maybe the energy of a lazy crowd and no sell-outs (in fact the Orlando performance tonight was moved to a smaller venue due to poor ticket sales) is depressing the already fairly emo bands…
and then the drive home on a crisp (51 degrees F) clear night with a friend in my ear was much fun… amazingly, the battery on the phone lasted almost the whole ride… must've been the music (cuz magic and mirrors are just tv commercials, right?... ah, love the unexplainable, don't we)... before getting home i stopped for food and did some shopping so there is more food in the house and once again, in the absence of any other intimate sensual activities, i indulged my taste buds to a few tastes they've been seeking for the past week or two (blasts from my past, push-cart hot dogs topped with cooked tomato-onion and white castle cheeseburgers and a few other snack items… have you tried the soft oreo cakesters yet?… yum… chocolate crème especially… and then i sat back with the laptop until i fell asleep, which wasn't long… and so how is it out there in your world?...

Neither do they sell Oreo cookies here. :( Ahh, your food talk again!
I wonder why when we are in a hurry something just must happen to slow us down, or do we just not notice the "something happening" at other times when we are not in a hurry?
smiles Isn't life wonderful?
I guess You are a person that are very aware of the present time. Many people miss this precious moments that creates the person we are becoming - we are in constant change aren't we?
And the food always taste better and home feels more cosy ... when we have been in RL and got new experiences, to reflect upon.
you poor Pernickety, deprived of USA junk food... you'll probably live longer :)
the hurry does highlight delays, certainly, but i'd notice a flat tire on the highway even if i was going no where and had all the time in the world to get there :)
some things, like flats, walls, cliffs, forest fires, and rabid animals are challenging not to notice when they cross your path... luckily, i only faced one of those that night :)
actually, Anna, I play with time, mock it, tease it, manipulate it, and otherwise have fun with it as if i have some control over it simply because i can put a date and time on an entry or something...
time is relatively meaningless to me most of the time :)
it is easier to appreciate the moment when you are not paying attention to time...
and after a while, perhaps you will understand that real life is my fantasy...
in fact, i believe real life is fantasy or illusion and sharing mutual fantasy/illusion is the real life i dream of :)
it makes sense to me :)
*LOL*
"The Matrix" 4 real!
... or just Plato in his Cave.
Whenever You arrive in the Real World ... welcome to the real insanity ;-)
I must admit I didn't picture You as a personal experience blogger ... it took me some time to figure out how to meet this ... I am happy You fooled me ;-)
(( hug ))
the daily life slips into the babble now and then :)
I appreciate you being here :)
