spanish storm

hey people of the internet (and dear friends)... Ernesto, the spanish storm, is due to arrive in the next few hours and if I disappear for a few days or longer then bad luck struck casa de candoor because the storm itself is not supposed to be too serious... latest predictions are for a maximum of 30-40 mile per hour winds with gusts possibly up to 50 mph and 3-5 inches of rain, since gusts currently down south are not quite 40 mph, they may be over estimating Ernesto's staying power... but even the high estimates are pretty much nothing compared to the hurricanes of 2004 when sustained 90 mph winds (with gusts up to 120 mph) came barreling through this area ripping off roofs and knocking down a lot of the trees in it's path (at least half the trees in my apartment complex were gone after Charlie, the first storm through in '94)... we survived them with just a bit of trauma and lots of inconvenience... but there is always the chance they the random tornado could plop down right where I am sitting and whisk me away to Oz or elsewhere or even neverwhere, as Neil Gaiman might say, so if this is the last entry for a few days or longer it's probably cuz the storm disconnected us for a while...

no worries, I've been one of the riders on the storm for a long time and shall enjoy the heck out of the weather (and weather can have much heck in it, don'tcha know)...

Precious is home cuz they closed all the schools in the area (in most of Florida south of Gainesville, which is about two hours north of Orlando, in fact)... precautions will probably be extreme after the past two years of devastating storms... I just got home and don't have to be back at work for about ten hours and the worst of the storm should be pushing through in these next ten hours, so we'll enjoy it for a while and then I'll probably sleep through much of it unless Precious or something wakes me for some reason...

hopefully the areas like New Orleans and the Gulf Coast and anywhere else still rebuilding will not see much weather this season... you can read about my friends and others in the path of Katrina by following links in the side bar behind the candoor if you are interested and have time... I'll try to stop by tonight just before leaving for work and update briefly if the power is on... as I said, odds are all will be fine here for us...
