almost there
so it was back to work and it was work as usual, almost... I finally confronted the IT person and told her to just give me the computer and I'd do whatever setting up she didn't get to yet... the good news is the computer works... it's 512RAM and as I've said, a 3005 or older model... Windows XP and MS Office 2003, except for MS Access (the program I use most, of course) which is still the 2000 version because the software that came with the computers was MS Office Small Business Basic, which doesn't include Access... too cheap and lack of foresight to get the Premium or Professional, or more RAM or a faster processor, for that matter, but at least I have a working computer...
the bad news is all of my contacts, address book, email, shortcuts, bookmarks, calendar, journal, and personal settings are gone... she didn't know how to move them over from the old to the new computer before the old computer died and now it's a matter of removing the hard drive and trying to recover the files and she has no clue as to how to do that... so the various people who emailed me about late reports will have to email me again whenever they get around to it and all the conversations I've been having are going to start over (with me trying to remember where they left off, like what was the last excuse I gave them for being late)... and the hospital will lose some business and take some much bigger hits next audit and they'll look to blame me and not want to hear that I told them about the computer problems for months...
and since I've got trainings Tuesday and Wednesday, I'll call the state offices on Thursday and explain the situation and ask for the secure website addresses that I need to submit the reports and apologize for the hospital's continued computer problems, again, and explain that next mnonth's data will be late, again, and we'll laugh about how inept upper management can be and I'll start the process of rebuilding the address book and contacts lists and shortcuts and bookmarks and modifications that make my job a whole lot easier...
Precious called for a ride home from the mall, which meant I got home a half hour later thanks to rush hour traffic, which is ridiculous considering I live five minutes from where I work... anyway, home, I finally ate salad, with the rest of the barbecue chips... a bit more myspace wandering... and it was Enterprise monday on TV (so still no gym)...
and we're almost there (in the now)...
