just another day
first though, the RealTime™ update... day off from work allowed me to play at myspace and enjoy the flow of words inspired by a few people there (you'll find some of the inspirations, rhymes and reasons, in the last two entries)... we ate fish and shrimp tonight, my treat (cuz Raspy treated at Steak N Shake last night)... and th weight still remains stable, which is good cuz it means the metabolism has increased... the house is still relatively tidy too, which has been maintained more than a week now since I cleaned it when I stayed home from work last Tuesday...
Precious got home from shooting off fireworks tonight with 1st, 2nd, and a touch of 3rd degree burn on her neck and upper chest... they are such careless children sometimes... aparently a roman candle somehow bounced off the ground and hit her in the chest and neck... how lucky it wasn't a few inches higher or she might be blind right now... or at least have facial scars... I cleaned the wounds, debrided them, and used some triple bacitracin ointment because there's no way she's gonna keep it clean or covered where it is... hopefully it won't get infected... it's definitely gonna hurt, but she'll survived and hopefully learn to be more careful with fireworks... I'll check it tomorrow...
that's today... now, to the title thought...
ok, so sometimes I simply choose not to play in the reindeer games... yes, I know, it was a national holiday in the USA... but like most national (and religious) holidays, our culture distorts the celebration and it becomes so superficial and warped that I just watch or, in some cases, ignore and even avoid the public fanfare altogether (like on Thanksgiving, but that's another story)...
anyway, you might have noticed the influence started two entries back with comments inspired by at least one holiday-influenced blog... much as an atheist chooses to not be influenced by religion or an agnostic chooses to accept not knowing, I accept that most of the national holidays are someone else's party and in some cases, I don't support the what they are celebrating for...
so to cheat now, here was my response to one of the many Happy 4th of July messages I got today:
I did have a good day in my own way :)
I am generally an observer or avoider of public holidays, rarely a participant, mostly because most public holidays in this country are celebrating war, some victory by force that was born of hatred for some other people and that's not any reason for celebration for me...
over the years there are positive spins and people accept the holidays as tradition, but I'm not into the mass pretenses so I just nod my head and move along...
when I do take them seriously, for me the holidays are a reminder of the stupidity and hypocrisy of our modern culture and most of all, what we lost as a people...
I don't often share this view because I'm not out to bring anybody down, but it's part of knowing me so now you know...
I celebrate every day as another day of living (and loving - queue an old song) and some personal memories are special days and meeting up with friends are very special days, but all in all every day is a celebration (so I can, when I want to, party with anyone for whatever reason they are partying cuz I've got my own reasons :)
hope you've got your party hat on too :)
and on this note I shall suggest that the last two entries were more intense, more emotional, more fun and offer different sides of me for you to get to know... hope you are smiling at your life (and find it smiling back) and thanks for caring...
nite nite :)

who are you and what were you before?
lol Candoor,
most yanks still don't quite get
why Brits don't celebrate 4th of July.
A bit like the Vietnamese not understanding why the US don't celebrate the end of the Vietnam War
I'll have to admit that I feel the same way about the 4th. I spent the day doing things completely unrelated to the holiday. ...and happily so! :)
z - dunno, but I know I've been sleeping a long time and not getting any rest... when I finally wake up I'm gonna be sooo tired...
q - yeah, I found it odd that so many people wished the rest of the world a happy 4th...
h - humans are fixated with death and blowing things up... I'm not :)
