a public service announcement from god
go see religulous, a film by bill maher and company... if you absolutely will not see a movie without checking reviews, here they are and rotten tomatoes too, while we're at it... or imdb (my first choice if i want to find out more about a movie) or wiki (my second choice), for that matter...
while bill is way too snarky to be taken seriously by most religious people (he just can't help laughing at the talking snake and the other illogic in the religious texts, though rarely would a religious person claim logic had much to do with faith or the miracles they believe in, so it's an interesting interaction between a snarky kid (bill) who wants proof of the miracles and the people who believe in the miracles who need no proof, but are willing to try to find some to please bill (which he finds even more amusing)... laughing at people's faith seldom gets them to take you seriously, but then, bill is marketing his product, which is doubt (in his own words), to non-believers and people who don't really take religion seriously but follow the crowd so as not to make waves... he claims that is the vast majority of people and that actually seems true based on my experience...
i mean, ask yourself what percentage of the human race actually even goes to a weekly service... and how many of that percentage go because someone is demanding they go, whether through direct pressure or peer pressure or work pressure or something else... like how many people who put up xmas trees really do it for religious reasons (or even know the actual origins of xmas trees, for that matter)... and how many people look for loopholes and ways out of practicing their supposed faith... and we won't even get into the question of how many people really do follow their faith in practical daily life... when was the last time there was no war on this planet?...
ah, rhetorical questions for the masses, just what i enjoy (in my own snarky way... hmmm, where's bill's audience?... maybe they'll like me too {can i be any more irreverently candid} and come be my fans too)... but seriously, it is a movie everyone should see (and hopefully with an open mind, but i know that is beyond some people) and talk about... of course if we just look at the #1 box office gross film for the week (something about beverly hills chihuahuas, i believe), we can see what people really want to talk about and it sure isn't any serious subject... does this add to the point i was making in the previous paragraph?... ummmm, yeah, whatever...
